History
Outline planning permission was applied for in 2001 on 120 acres of land
opposite Tesco’s East of the A1120 and South of the A14, for what ever reason
this was put on hold and reapplied for in 2003. At the time, Stowmarket Town
Council gave their approval. A small committee was formed to fight this
application and some 500 letters of objection were received in MSDC when the
application was made. There was strong feeling generally against it. For some
reason or other this did not go ahead and seemed to have gone away. The 500
suggested jobs in fact was considerably less. Parking for buses and coaches was
included in the application suggesting many would be brought in from outside.

Size and information on this type of operation
( Based on the last application) 120 acres is a very large acreage. It is from
the Tesco roundabout all the way to Muntons and out as far as Clamp Farm which
is the building, you can see on the far eastern edge of the field. A green
field site going under concrete.
This is a 24hr, 365 day per year operation involves the shunting of containers
by rail, (usually noisy diesel engines carry out the shunting,) a very
substantial increase in the number of heavy goods vehicles on both local roads
and the A14 , day and night, ( the last application asked for parking for 200,
plus 300 cars) . Bright lighting required in order to work at night, a massive
warehouse, ( 12 acres last time) and usually an eyesore. etc etc. We believe
that this type of operation would have an immense detrimental impact forever on
our way of life and the surrounding villages, through noise, pollution and
heavy goods traffic.
We shall keep you up to date with anything we hear, but it is also in your own
interests to keep your eyes open.
