20/12/2008 - B1115 STOWMARKET RELIEF ROAD December Newsletter

Welcome to the second edition of the newsletter for the B1115 Stowmarket Relief Road.

The station car park is progressing well, and is almost complete, comprising of a very attractive brickwork design, which is self draining. Rainwater will flow between the bricks into several layers of filter media underneath the bricks.

Drainage is continuing to the north side access road and the diversion of a foul sewer has taken place. This work had been delayed due to the high water table level of existing groundwater, but we have had permission from the Environment Agency to discharge into the River Gipping. Japanese knotweed was discovered in three small areas near Creeding Road, but has been successfully removed from site.

Statutory utility service diversions along the junction of Gipping Way with Milton Road have taken place, consisting of electric cables together with the installation of additional BT ducts.

We are investigating means of mitigating the effects of Driven Piling Operations in conjunction with Suffolk C C Environmental Health. We have also recently completed bored piles on the north access road west bridge abutment. No piling operations will take place between 20 December and 4th January 2009. Concrete works to this bridge will commence in the new year.

If you would like further information on the scheme please telephone the Birse freephone helpline number 0800-0329760. Birse Civils Ltd and Suffolk County Council would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a happy Christmas and good wishes for the New Year.
