11/01/2007 - Village Centre Plans Revised

Update of Flats Planning Application 2141/06 Village Centre Phase 2

A meeting was held on the 14th December 2006 between MSDC and Crest where this application was discussed in detail.

What we ascertain from the minutes ( of which we have a copy) this proposal was given a good airing with input from officers from Suffolk County Council, and others also in attendance. The Police and Fire Officers reports have been passed to Crest

 We asked for a short summary of where we are now and have received a ‘position statement’ from  Phillipa Kelly the Senior Planning Officer assigned to this application. It reads as follows:-

Planning Application 2141/06 for the Village centre Phase 2 Site, Cedars Park was submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council in September 2006. the application has been the subject of widespread consultation. In addition, over 200 letters of objection were received from local residents.

Mid Suffolk District Council has been working with the developer, Crest Nicholson, to achieve a revised design. This will seek to address many of the concerns raised during the consultation process.

It is hoped that a new planning application for this site will be submitted at the end of January/early February 2007. The developer will be encouraged to under take local publicity prior to the application being submitted. Those people who wrote to the Planning Department regarding application 2141/06 will be informed of any new application on this site.

Message ends.

Comment;

We cannot pre-empt what the new design will be ; however we have voiced our ongoing fears and serious reservations about high rise development in Cedars Park some of which were echoed in the Police summary.

One general comment would be that we cannot imagine anything less like a village centre than a proposal for high rise buildings.

We are pleased however that the planning officer Phillipa Kelly has asked Crest for a road show/exhibit before new planning application comes in. We may even ask our MP David Ruffley to get behind this in the event that Crest do not accede to this request

We now await the next stage
