05/02/2007 - ‘Container depot’ proposal is back

Developers are, once again, putting out the feelers for a large ‘multi-modal distribution park’near Cedars Park. The site, bordering the A1120 above Muntons, will be larger than the 120-acre proposal rejected in 2003. Apart from the eyesore of probable container storage, CPRA believes that the possible movement of hundreds of extra lorries, cars and buses over a likely 24-hour working day would create noise, congestion, pollution. This kind of site could even attract organised crime!

In 2003, residents helped stop the previous development in its tracks with protest meetings, and over 500 objection letters to Mid-Suffolk District Council. Although the new proposal is at an early stage, CPRA tried to press for a clear rejection at a meeting of the Stowmarket Town Council on 31st January. However, though the proposal was listed for discussion, councillors felt legally unable to comment until a formal planning application has been made.
