11/10/2008 - Strong support for Tesco upgrade

Local residents have shown strong support for plans to improve the Tesco superstore on Cedars Park. In just over 4 hours outside the store, CPRA members collected around 500 letters of support from residents living right across mid-Suffolk, and beyond.

The plans, which have been rejected by Stowmarket Town Council, involve a small increase to the store's overall size. A revised layout will create bigger aisles and allow more stock, as well as creating up to 56 new jobs.

CPRA believes that Tesco's plan will bring sensible improvements to a key local facility. With three national retailers already in the town, we believe that fears for smaller businesses have been over-stated.

The plans will be considered by Mid-Suffolk District Council's Planning Committee later this month.
